Created from bamboo, the world’s most renewable material, Banbū Leather is a next generation leather alternative that’s 83% plant-based, biodegradable in a landfill, yet just as supple and durable as leather. Feels like lambskin with a smooth, natural grain and low shine.

The process takes Bamboo plants to harvest and cut into chips to create a soft, natural pulp. The fibers are gently extracted and spun into yarn. The yarn is woven into a plant-based material and treated with our plant-based topcoat. By combining low-impact bamboo fibers with our plant-based, durable topcoat, we estimate a 5x carbon emission savings compared to cow leather.

Banbū is made from the most renewable material that’s non-toxic and naturally antimicrobial. Known for its strength and resilience, bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants on the planet. It can be harvested without destroying its root systems and needs relatively little water to grow.

Unlike other vegan leathers made from 100% petroleum, Banbū bio-based materials biodegrade when placed in a landfill or other zero oxygen environment, just like a banana.

These microbes consume the materials, then create enzymes that break down the material, making it easier for microorganisms to munch on the rest. 100% biodegradation of Banbū Leather in less than 250 days.
