Isaac Monté transforms the Lady Dior handbag by submerging its leather, metal hardware, and structural elements into carefully calibrated mineral baths that trigger controlled crystal growth. Through a slow process of chemical layering, minerals and oxides accumulate on the surface, forming faceted crystalline skins that evolve without molds or mechanical shaping. This technique, refined over a decade, preserves the bag’s underlying cane work while allowing each crystal formation to develop its own color, density, and texture. The outcome is a materially reengineered object.
