Designer Noe Duchaufour-Lawrance has used discarded burnt cork to create a furniture collection featuring sinuous forms and a gradient of textures. Discarded burnt cork is transformed into custom gradient blocks, then carved to reveal tactile and sculptural creations. A defined gradient of coarse and fine cork granules guides the structure of the design. Cork comes from the cork oak tree Orquercus Suber. During forest fires, the top layer of bark chars and protect the tree beneath, and cork producers need to peel this layer off to promote new growth.
