The Banksia Chair by Manner Studio transforms the discarded seed pods of Banksia Grandis, a native Western Australian species, into an unexpected furniture material. Each seed pod is individually turned on a lathe before being assembled using short lengths of threaded rod and adhesive, creating a larger, solid form. The assembled components are then returned to the lathe, where they are finally turned and sanded to create a seamless, sculptural surface. The result is a chair that combines traditional craft techniques with material experimentation, demonstrating how an overlooked natural by product can be reimagined for contemporary furniture design.
