ColoRing is made by applying three colorpaint layers like strata on an uneven wood surface treated by Udukuri method, the traditional Japanese woodcraft technique; then the undulated paint surface is sanded until flat to reveal tri-colored tree ring patterns. Jo Nagasaka took inspiration from Tsugaru nuri, the traditional lacquer technique succeeded by craftsmen in Aomori, Japan, and the new method was made by integrating Tsugaru nuri and Udukuri.
